Little Snow Elves

My mother (center) with two of her sisters in the 1940's

Although it's a little blurry I love this photo of my mother and two of her sisters.  They look like little Christmas elves in their matching snowsuits.

This is my first layout for Tresors de Luxe, using some of their beautiful laces, flowers and jewelry pieces.  These are some of the pieces I used.

I struggled with the My Creative Scrapbook design work I did in my last post, coming to the conclusion (especially when I saw what beautiful things the other designers accomplished with the kit), that perhaps I am not suited to design for a kit club.  I remember a designer on tv once saying "give a designer a limited budget and watch them sweat genius".   Well, I sweated all right, but I didn't smell any genius, lol.

I was much more comfortable working on Little Snow Elves for Tresors de Luxe.
For this page I used MajaDesign papers from their Vintage Frost collection.

I stamped the background using several different Kaisercraft texture stamps with brown and dark grey archival inks. Then I used a memory box stencil with molding paste, applying it in patches to random areas.  I washed over those areas with very diluted brown watercolour paint.

Under the large piece of lace at the bottom I cut a wide strip of a darker coloured paper from the Vintage Frost collection.  I used 2 sets of dies to cut out the layered shapes (although the My Favorite Things one is difficult to see) and punched a border for the top and bottom tucking it underneath the upper layer.

The large pink "snowflake" under the top right corner of the photo was cut from very thin chipboard on a Cricut using the Close to My Heart - Art Philosophy cartridge.  I inked it and embossed it with Stampendous Frantage Embossing Enamel - Shabby Pink.

The berries, lichen covered branch and red cedar pieces I bought years ago at Michael's Arts and Crafts when I used to make topiaries and flower arrangements as a hobby.  The smaller flowers are by Prima.

The little snowflakes were made with Sculpey Ultra Light and Best Flexible Molds - Let It Snow.  I painted them brown and dry brushed multiple layers of white overtop.

The pieces of jewelry from Tresors de Luxe were cut apart with tin snips and dry brushed with white and pink paint.  I also dry brushed pink paint over the flowers and lace.

Here are some more closeups:

Thanks for taking a look.

  1. Tracy, I'm 'late' commenting on this fabulous LO because I went to Houston to visit my daughter, son-in-law & Grand-cats : ) OMG! This is SO creative! I absolutely LOVE it! I really love the colors you chose! You really brought everything together....like you always do : ). Your use of the dies, stamps, punches, berries, snowflakes, lace, stenciling....every single element just makes this so wonderful to look at! What a gorgeous work of art! The photo is GREAT! Those berries just stand out and 'pop' off the page as they say. I really, really love your style! Wish I could mimic some of it. Lisa : )

    1. Thanks Lisa. You don't have to apologize for commenting "late", lol. I appreciate your comments so very much and I am not always prompt to leave you comments myself.

  2. I find the whole process fascinating of marrying textures and papers, then stamping and printing. I remember when ! was still a kid, I loved things you could stamp whether cutting holes or printing ink. I think it all started when I saw old documents and passports that had stamps and signatures from all over the place. I guess it gave me a sense of a journey or something?

    1. You are showing up everywhere now, lol. That's what I get for getting involved in social media (just kidding). But you know I'm not the most social person, so I might not be the most chatty person in reply.
