Big Sister

This is my first ever project for Scraps of Elegance using the June kit, Birds of a Feather.  I used the Main Kit as well as the Floral and Elements add-ons.  The main kit features paper from BoBunny's Serendipity collection.  I think it goes perfectly with this old photo of my husband's grandmother and two of her younger siblings.

I used the back of the Serendipity Treetops paper from the main kit as the background, distressed the edges and glued it onto the striped Life paper.

On the background I did some stenciling with molding paste and misted and splattered with a pink spray.  I then used grey ink with the 49 and Market stamp, "Script Squared", from the kit on the background.

I used the Serendipity Branches paper from the kit for the die-cut frame, layering it over a dark brown copy and offsetting it slightly to accentuate the edges.

The larger flowers are from the Floral Add-on, the chipboard nest from the Elements Add-on and the mini butterflies, die-cut flowers and bird houses from the Main Kit.  The daisies and the lace were from my stash.

Thank you so much for taking a look today!

Summer Breeze

My husband's grandmother

This is my final layout for Blue Fern Studios as their fan of the month for July.  It features a photo of  my husband's grandmother, Audrey.

For this layout I used papers from the Garden Life collection.  I used the back of the Calling Cards paper as the background and the back of the Flower Bed paper for the die-cuts.

I did some random stamping on the background with dark grey ink.

I coated the Dangled Lace piece with matte medium, then applied DecoArt white crackle paint. When that was dry, I brushed it with Prima Vausseroux Artisan Power wiping off the excess with a damp cloth and then rubbed it with a bit of Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink.

I painted the Garden Daisies grey and then brushed watery white paint over the petals.  I glued a mixture of Prills (Heart of Gold, Orange Juice and Lemon Chiffon) to the center of each flower using Artquest Perfect Paper Adhesive.

I painted the Layering Stems green then applied white glue (Scotch Tacky Glue) to the petals and heat-embossed them with Spiced Marmalade Distress Embossing Powder.

I also used some printed chipboard from Blue Fern Studios' Garden Life and Happy Accident collections.

I used some alphabet stamps with dark grey ink to put the name on the printed chipboard piece.

These are the dies and punch I used:

The clay pieces were made with Sculpey Ultra Light and Molds.

I sprayed the flourish under the photo with Lindy's Stamp Gang's Screamin' Banshee Black and Mango Mania mists. It was a little too dark so I painted over it with some white paint to tone it down. I also rubbed white paint over the raised areas with my fingertip to bring out the details more.

I brushed the medallion with Prima Vauseroux Artisan Powder and sprayed it with Lindy's Stamp Gang's Mango Mania mist.  I also rubbed over the raised areas with white paint using my fingertip.  I then removed the arms off a brad and glued it into the center of the medallion.

I inked the edges of the petals with the Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink.

Thank you so much for taking a look!

I want to give a big thank you to Blue Fern Studios for picking me as their "Fan of the Month" for July.  I had a wonderful time creating with their beautiful products.

Unknown Ancestors

The photo I used in this layout was among some old family photographs but had no names written on the back. I think it might be my great-great grandparents with two of their younger daughters because I notice a resemblance to my great-grandfather.

For this layout I used a variety of old papers from my stash.  The background paper was from Prima's Lucid collection and some of the die-cuts were cut from Lilac House papers by Fancy Pants Designs.

These are the punches and dies I used:

Parisian Border

I painted the Parisian Border and Ornate Corner dark brown and then dabbed on Prima Finnabair Patina Pastes sparingly with a brush.  I also rubbed a hint of white paint overtop with my fingertip.

I painted the Corner Flourish white and then applied Renaissance Viva Decor Crackle paint.

The clay piece below the photo was made with a mold and Sculpey Ultra Light.  I applied Prima Finnabair Patina Pastes thickly with a brush and then rubbed over the raised areas with Vintage Silk Opal Magic wax using my finger.

Party Dress

My sister Linda in 1965

I'm very pleased to present this third layout for Blue Fern Studios as their "Fan of the Month" for July.

I used their In Bloom paper from their Garden Life collection for the backbround and some cream coloured cardstock for the doily die-cuts.

Bohemian Flowers

I heat-embossed the Flutter Medley with Peeled Paint Distress Embossing Powder and rubbed some white paint overtop.  I didn't like the contrast that created so I did a wash of watery white paint overtop to tone it down.  I applied Scattered Straw Distress Stickles to the butterflies.  When that was dry I squeezed some white glue on the interior portions of the wings and sprinkled it with Sunlight Rose Imagine Ink Embossing Powder before heat setting it.

The Bohemian Flowers were painted white and embossed with Baby Pink Imagine Ink Embossing Powder.

I also used a couple of pieces of printed chipboard.
